wheat bread and brown rice?

Postby d1ana on Wed Jul 29, 2009 12:31 am

Hello! I was wondering if someone can give me the "skinny" on real whole wheat bread and brown rice? In the past, I've been trying to stay away from white rice and white bread, but I keep reading that whole wheat bread and brown rice aren't good for you either - because they're grains or something? What are other alternatives to bread and rice?

Thanks for your input!

Hi, there are many thoughts and ideas on grains and how they are damaging to the body. I will try to get some links for you. I stay away from even "whole grain breads" as they are still very processed. I only do a sprouted grain bread and rice on occassion. You can sprout yourself, it is time consuming or you can find a prepackaged sprouted products. Like Ezekial Bread with coconut butter on it (as it is so dry !) or the Manna bread which is great (caloric so be careful !).
I was buying a sprouted rice in a microwave bowl (very good) but I use very seldom as I try Not to use the microwave. :D I am going to sprout some brown rice this week.

thanks twinee1! please do send me any links you think might be helpful. i guess i'm really confused why brown rice would be unhealthy when most "healthy" people i know are promoting it. also, couldn't i do wheat bread as long as there aren't additional artificial ingredients in it?

i'll have to look into prouted grain bread and rice, and exactly what they are. i don't think i've heard of either? i've tried ezekial bread in the past and thought it was fine, except it was kinda pricey. i'll have to check out the manna bread too, thanks for caloric-warning. are sprouted bread and rice caloric as well?

i just don't think i can give up bread and rice altogether. i'm currently fasting, but i want to research as many healthy food alternatives as possible now so i don't dive back into my habits with unhealthy foods. also, i have a teenager to feed, and taste is very important to him (believe it or not, he eats healthier than i do most of the time).

thanks again!

Quinoa is excellent. It also sprouts easily. Sprouting(what rice quinoa) releases the digestive enzymes in the grain (brings it back to life, that is why is promoted. In it dried state it is dormat, so to speak. That is why a dried grain doesnot sprout sitting in the cabinet, compared to a potato that will begin to sprout left too long in the cabinet. You would never see a grain sprout unless you soak it and set it to sprout 12- 2 days. I will give some links tomorrow.
