How important is salt intake during a water fast?

Postby Labman on Thu Jul 08, 2010 11:53 am

I hate to start a new thread as this forum seems littered with 1 and 2 reply threads but I can't seem to track down an answer to my question. I am on day 3 of a water fast (expecting to go 3 weeks with intermittent juicing on my champion juicer) and also just started helping a friend with a serious amount of tile work. My previous lengthy fasts have always been in the winter and keeping warm seemed a primary concern. In Michigan here we are in the heat of summer, been over 90 for almost a week and when I am working on tiles I literally drip sweat the entire time. I expect to work on this for about another week or two and because of the amount of sweat I am wondering for the first time about the importance of salt during such a sweaty fast at least.

Should I be taking some in? If so what is the best way to do it and how much/often should it be done?

Thank you,
Bryan

What would even be better to replenish electrolytes would be to drink a veggie juice with lots of added celery.
God Bless you:

Ok, thank you Ron. This past weekend I did mix up some serious doses of fresh veggie/fruit juices, although I have always had a hard time getting down celery (in any form as it turns out). BTW, I'd like to thank you for your book(s) on fasting and for this forum. 2.5 years ago I felt called to a lengthy fast and found this website and read everything I could! Then about 2 or 3 days into my fast I found out my pastor, who is also my close friend, also had been called to his first lengthy fast and we were on it at the same time. We talked and prayed a lot and I shared with him many of the things I learned here to which he took and immediate appreciation and enjoyment of. As a result of that our entire church now has an annual fasting time, usually 3 weeks in jan or feb. Thanks for helping us understand fasting better and for motivating us to seek and serve God in this way!

P.S. As it turns out, my pastor is the one who I am helping with all the tile work :!: He keeps forgetting that I'm fasting and offering to have some dinner ready for me since I have been coming straight from work, we get a decent chuckle out of that!

God has blessed,
Bryan

I have read that you should put a 1/4 teaspoon of unrefined sea salt in every gallon of water you drink when fasting (juice or water fasts). Not sure how true it is, but I will be doing it.
